The formative years...

CATHERINE HICKLAND has enjoyed a 20-year television career having starred in numerous daytime dramas, guest starring roles and movies of the week. However, she is best known for her leading roles and long tenures on the Soap Operas Capitol (CBS-TV), Loving (ABC-TV), and The City (ABC-TV) for which she won Soap Opera Update's Best Actress Award in 1996. She is known by soap fans the world over as all of the shows have enjoyed overseas success in over 40 countries as well.
Born and raised in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, Hickland's first professional job got her nationwide attention as a stewardess in an airline "Fly Me" advertising campaign. Since that time, she has received exposure in the dual role of "Julie Clegg" and "Jenny Diamond" on Capitol, and as "Dr. Courtney Marshall" on Texas.

Catherine has also guest-starred on numerous prime-time series, such as Knight Rider, Eight is Enough, Airwolf and Vega$ and such television movies as The Seeding of Sara Burns and To Race the Wind. Feature-film credits include The Last Married Couple in America, Witch Craft, Taxi Killer and Sweet Justice, in which she shows off her karate skills.

Shortly after the cancellation of Capitol, Catherine moved to Rome, immersing herself in a new language and a new culture. She lived there for two years, during which time she made several Italian films. After her return to the United States, she met her husband, All My Children star Michael E. Knight (who plays Tad Martin). They were married in June, 1992.

Catherine was signed to ABC-TV's Loving in 1993 as Tess Wilder. She followed the role when the show moved from Corinth to Soho and was christened The City.

Catherine starred in Les Misérables both on Broadway (1995) and the national tour (1997) as the tragic heroine "Fantine." She was thrilled to be the lead sopranist, performing with the National Symphony de Lyon in Lyon, France. It was this concert which gave her the inspiration to start ...Sincerely, Broadway, her CD and concert. In March 1996, Catherine staged two sold-out performances of her cabaret, Boys on the Side. Her 1998 cabaret, Once More With Feeling is part of the China Club's special Broadway series.

Joining the cast of One Life to Live as Lindsay Rappaport in 1998, Catherine is once again in daytime. She loves her new role and states "God, I feel like a fan that won a contest and I get to be in Llanview!" The fans love her too, as she was named 1998 Best Supporting Actress by TV Guide for her role as Lindsay.

Catherine and Michael starred opposite one another on stage in the play, Run for Your Wife, in Los Angeles. They now live in Manhattan with their dog and six cats.
